Bulge British
Following the breakout from Normandy in August 1944, the British Army made some of the fastest advances in history, racing across northern France and Belgium.  When German resistance stiffened in the Netherlands, the British paused briefly to resupply, then set out again.  The armoured divisions of Operation Garden pushed North to where Operation Market's 1st Airborne Division held a precarious foorhold across the Rhine, only to be stopped by the revitalised German Army.  With the days of rapid advances over, the British and Canadian Armies turned to clearing the Scheldt Estuary to open the vital supply port of Antwerp, opening it to shipping in November 1944.

Command Cards are entirely optional and can be added to your force in two ways. You can add them to your normal point cost, just as you would add a unit to your force, or you and your opponent can agree on a set amount of points that each may use just to add Command Cards to your lists.

Many Command Cards are hidden until they are used, so you’re never quite sure what your opponent’s battle plans are until they are revealed. While hidden, Command Cards do not affect their attached unit—a player must reveal them if they wish to gain the benefits of the card. Some Command Cards must be revealed at the start of the game; these cards are used to build your army and have the keyword 'Build'.

Command Card Previews
As you might expect, the Bulge: British pack has many of the same Command Cards as other nations like Softskin Transport, Lucky, etc. However, you will also find a great variety of cards for Warriors, Unit and Formation builds, as well as cards that enhance a particular part of your Forces capabilities. You will find plenty of flavourful cards as well to give your force a feel all its own.  As an example, there are several different build cards. Some do simple things like MMG CARRIERS, which converts a Vickers Machine-gun Platoon to a MMG Carrier Platoon or vice versa during the start of your Movement Step for 1 point for the Unit.

Bulge: British Command Cards (FW272C) An example of a unique and interesting build card is the MRC BODY ARMOUR command card.  Body armour was developed by the Medical Research Council to protect against shell splinters.  Airbourne units were issued with these and provided extra protection costing 1pt per unit.  Teams with the body armour that fail a save for a hit from an Artillery Bombardment (after any re-rolls) get to roll again.  5+ they are unharmed, 4 or less are destroyed after any necessary Firepower rolls.

There are several Formation Build cards including three Armoured Car Formations.  The ARMOURED CAR SQUADRON has the standard Daimler Armoured Cars, Dingos and Motor Rifle Platoon.  STAGHOUND command card upgrades your Daimler Armoured Cars in the troop to bigger, roomier, and better armoured Staghound.  For 3pts per unit, as well as better armour, there are more MGs and the 2pdr gun loses the Overworked rule.  MATADOR ARMOURED CARS command card lets you add an additional troop of the AEC III Matador Fire Support vehicles to the formation.  With the same armour as the Staghound, it is armed with a bigger 75mm gun that can either fire an artillery bombardment out to 48”, or AT10 direct fire out to 28”.  Take two for 4pts or three for 6pts.

A couple of the more interesting Force cards include BEHIND ENEMY LINES and BELGIAN RESISTANCE.

The first is for your SAS Section to arrive in your opponent’s deployment area in an ambush on a 5+ when rolling for reserves for 2pts.
The second for 3pts after deployment you can either remove a minefield or reposition one of your ranged in markers.

There are seven warriors you can field of which the most interesting one here is REG’ TITCH’ SNOWLING.  This hero (nicknamed Titch for his diminutive height) is a legend in which not only did he knock out two Panthers with one shot, but he also managed to shoot and blow up two U-Boats in the closing days of the war in his Comet tank!  For 2pts you can take this card with either the Comet or Sherman tank troop.  Discard the card to re-roll upto two misses and up to two failed Firepower tests with either the 77mm gun (Comet) or 17pdr gun (Firefly).
