Bulge: German
In early December 1944 it seemed to the Americans in the Ardennes forests to be unlikely that the Germans would attack. On 16 December that illusion was shattered when the might of German Sixth Panzer Army smashed into the thinly-held US lines. The Germans led the assault with elite units of 1. SS Panzerdivision, 2. Panzerdivision and Panzer Lehr. More was to come. On 31 December Hitler launched the last German offensive in the west, Operation Nordwind. German divisions along the Lorraine front attacked into the old French Maginot Line where the Americans had dug in. With many of their reserves sent north to face the Ardennes offensive, the Americans were taken by surprise.

Command Cards are entirely optional and can be added to your force in two ways. You can add them to your normal point cost, just as you would add a unit to your force, or you and your opponent can agree on a set amount of points that each may use just to add Command Cards to your lists.

Many Command Cards are hidden until they are used, so you’re never quite sure what your opponent’s battle plans are until they are revealed. While hidden, Command Cards do not affect their attached unit—a player must reveal them if they wish to gain the benefits of the card. Some Command Cards must be revealed at the start of the game; these cards are used to build your army and have the keyword 'Build'.

Command Card Previews
As you might expect, the Bulge: German pack has many of the same Command Cards as other nations like Softskin Transport, Lucky, etc. However, you will also find a great variety of cards for Warriors, Unit and Formation builds, as well as cards that enhance a particular part of your Forces capabilities. You will find plenty of flavourful cards as well to give your force a feel all of its own. As an example, there are a number of different build cards. Some do simple things like Heer Panzer Division Sd Kfz 251 half-track Transport, which allows you to transport the guns of your 7.5cm Tank-hunter Platoon with Sd Kfz 251 half-tracks for 1 point for the Unit. There are similar cards for the Brigade and SS 7.5cm Tank-hunters.

An example of a slightly more complex card is the Volks 7.5cm Artillery. This card lets you field 7.5cm (PaK40) anti-tank guns as artillery in your Volks 10.5cm Artillery Battery, a common practise in the Volks artillery where 10.5cm howitzers were in short supply. Other similar cards allow you to field 8.8cm anti-tank guns instead, or convert 10.5cm Nebelwerfers into heavier 21cm or 30cm rocket launchers.

There are a large number of Formation Build cards. Many of these represent some of the unusual Formation that fought in both the Market Garden and Ardennes campaigns. The Skorzeny’s Commandos 150. Panzerbrigade card allows to field a Formation of these troops who took part in the Ardennes offensive disguised as Americans to sow chaos and confusion. This is a series of six cards that includes Unit Builds and special rules, like Enemy Disguises that forces your opponent to first recognise your Unit as Friend or Foe before the can engage it, or Reverse Road Signs that makes your opponent reroll a successful Reserves roll.

Other Formation Builds include Kampfgruppe Grabner, and rebuilding SS Reconnaissance force that was committed to the battle for Arnhem Bridge during Market Garden where that famously used Armoured Trucks instead of half-tracks.

Other Formations allow you to field more common formations, but with a Bulge flavour, like the Panzer IV Company, which though similar to those in D-Day and Bagration, adds Ardennes specific infantry options. There are also similar Panzergrenadier and StuG Formations.

There are a seven Warriors as well, including Otto Carius, famed Tiger commander, but now in charge of a bunch of green recruits in powerful Jagdtigers. To go along with Carius you can also take the 512. Schwere PanzerjÄger Abteilung – 2nd Company Formation Build card to represent his green troops (makes the Jagdtiger tank-hunters Reluctant 5+, Trained  4+).
