ZiS Gun Battery (Plastic) (SBX34)
|
ZiS Gun Battery (Plastic) (SBX34) Includes four plastic 57mm ZiS 2 or 76mm ZiS 3 guns, four plastic artillery crew sprues, one resin HQ & OP team sprue, one resin staff team sprue, for large bases, 1 medium base, two small bases and one plastic base-plug sprue.
The lightweight and mobile 76mm ZIS-3 gun forms the mainstay of the artillery – the ‘Red God Of War’ – which, like many things in the Red Army, lacks subtlety but makes up for this in sheer weight of fire.

76mm ZiS-3 gun |
The 76mm divisional gun obr 1942 (ZiS-3) served a dual role. Using high-explosive ammunition it provided divisional artillery support. And with its effective armour-piercing ammunition, it was also a match for most German armour in an anti-tank role. In Berlin, you can field the ZiS-3 in the Hero Artillery Battalion or the Hero Tank Destruction Company. |

57mm ZiS-2 gun |
The 57-mm anti-tank gun obr 1941 (ZiS-2) was a dedicated anti-tank gun, which used the same trail as the ZiS-3. In Berlin, you can field the ZiS-2 in the Hero Tank Destruction Company. |

Assembling the ZiS-2/ZiS-3 guns
|
Step 2. The longer of the two gun options is the 57mm gun for the ZiS-2; the shorter gun with the muzzle brake is the 76mm gun for the ZiS-3. Once you have chosen which gun you'd like, glue it onto the trail. |
|
|
Step 3. The shield is attached directly to the gun. The bottom right picture shows where you glue. Don't forget to make sure it is facing the correct way! |

Basing the crew |
The artillery crew sprue has six figures, and each of your gun teams only requires five, so you will have enough options to give each gun team a different mix of figures. Position the figures around the gun as though they are busily operating their guns. Fill the spare hole using one of the plastic basing plugs. The ammunition boxes let you add some detail, making each base a miniature diorama. |

The figures for the Command Team, Observer Team and Staff Team are made from a light-weight polyester resin.
It feels and behaves quite similarly to the hard styrene of our injection-moulded plastic models, but it does not 'melt' together with plastic cement, so you will need to use Super Glue to attach these figures to their bases. It is easy to tell the difference, because the resin is a much paler grey colour.
The Observer Team uses the small two-hole base.
The Command Team uses the small three-hole base.
The Staff Team uses the medium four-hole base.

Finished! Happy modeling!
