They provide a solid base of fire, either suppressing any dug-in Jerries during an assault or breaking up their inevitable counter-attacks.    At the discretion of a Parachute Mortar Platoon’s commander the mortar teams could be replaced with Vickers HMGs, purpose designed to provide overwhelming firepower in either attack or defence.

In Flames Of War The Airlanding Machine-gun Platoon can also be used to represent the Parachute Mortar Platoons rearmed with Vickers HMG’s. In either case they provide valuable firepower to either type of British airborne company. The Vickers HMG can pump out a fair wack of lead with its Range 24”/60cm, ROF 6 (2 while pinned), AT 2 and FP 6.
