Historicon Report 2019 With Dave Griffin
If you have not attended a Historicon recently, they have moved to a beautiful new conventions center in downtown Lancaster. An area ripe with historical meaning and wonderful… well food, which is important to people like us. Historicon is the “home” convention for Battlefront and the site for our original Nationals for both Team Yankee and Flames of War.
|
Thursday kicked off the weekend with the doubles tournament, usually this is run by a dedicated local players, but Battlefront was asked to step up this year and cover for him. We had 11 teams partake in the “festivities”. We are pleased to have seen some new teams coming out, particularly this new father-son team from Millenium Hobbies in New Jersey.
|
Congratulations to Joe Lewis and Bryan Koches for taking the win.
The interesting part was the three way tie at second place, forcing a Strength of Schedule check to finalize placements.

Team Yankee Nationals The Third Annual Team Yankee Nationals kicked off with 39 players vying for the top slot in North America. Andrew Hopson and Chris Jackson took off to early leads, dominating the pack, but met head-to-head in the 3rd round each holding the other to a 3-3. This allowed the 2nd group of frontrunners: Max Beck, James Copeland and Marc Viau to close the gap.
|
|
In the end, Both Andrew and Chris held onto their leads, but Chris was able to pull off a 6-1 victory that cemented his position as Top Dog this year.

Flames Of War Nations This year we had 40 players, with a heavy levy of newer players that had not attended before or had not been around in a while. Once again we had players come in from all over the continent to share their love of the game and test their mettle against some of the best. Steadfast groups like Tough Ombres, Able Komapnie, WGA, Legions and NORCAL were joined this year by newcomers Desert Mountain Brigade , Ottawa mini Gamers and JAC Hobby along with many independent players, it made for an interesting field.

757th Rangers’ James Best Sr took first in a hotly contested final bout with “Pastor” Pete Zerphy taking a comfortable Second. We had a five way tie for Third which caused an in-depth Strength of schedule check with Tim McClelland coming out on top. Eric Camba pulled a best painted and Jon Holland was voted Best Sportsman by his fellow players.

Finally, there was an unofficial Ironman that happened over the weekend, many thanks to those gents that stuck it out over 11 rounds over three days, many of these fine gentlemen also helped us set up on Wednesday and tear down on Sunday.
Many thanks to all that made this year enjoyable and successful, I look forward to seeing you all again on the circuit in the future. May the dice be kind. ~Dave
