The Red Army in Palmerston North:
Hero Strelkovy Polk at Panzerschreck 2015
With Wayne Turner

After finishing work on the Berlin book I was quite enthusiastic about painting up some Hero Strelkovy. Having already collected a bunch of Stelkovy miniatures over the last couple of years, and the annual Panzerschreck tournament coming up, I thought it would get started. As Panzerschreck is a doubles tournament I only had to prepare 1000 points. My partner was former Battlefront staffer Victor Pesch. He took a fantastic looking Hero Tankovy Brigada from Desperate Measures. It was so good he won best painted army-by a landslide. (Check out Victor's army here...)

Game-wise we only won the one game, in a tough-fought battle against a horde of Volkssturm and Jagdtigers (4-3), but managed a couple close fought loses (both 3-4). We had two other loses (1-6 and 2-5), for our first and last game. In the first game we defended Breakthrough and had a moment of brain fade by only having one of Victor’s platoons on the table, which was then destroyed, forcing Victor to test his company morale. He failed that and the game ended on our turn 3. So I feel we handed that game to our opponents. Other than that a great time was had, and despite our single victory we managed to come 6th through being ranked 1st for Army, and 2nd equal for Sports, 17th for Generalship. Victor got a shiny medal for his Army.

For the tournament I ran my force as Red Army, but intend to run as Guards once I have finished expanding it out to 1500-2000 points. The infantry bases are from XX106 Plastic Bases – Rubble, while the heavy mortar bases are plastic card cobblestones I got from a model railway shop.
