 Counterattack Bundle

Below we cover off some options to help you expand your force into a full 100 point army. The best book to look at for how to expand your force is the D-Day: Forces in Normandy, 1944 book.

German Players
The Counterattack bundle includes enough figures to build a Panzergrenadier Company HQ (with 2 teams and Sd Kfz 251 Half-track), a Panzergrenadier Platoon (with 10 teams) carried in Sd Kfz 251 Half-tracks and four Jagdpanzer IV Assault Guns. Depending on the options you choose these units can cost you up to 48 points, leaving a further 52 points to expand out to a 100 point force.

The Panzergrenadier Company (both the Armoured and non-armoured versions) require that you field a Company HQ and two infantry platoons. One is already covered by this bundle and for the second you can choose from another Armoured Panzergrenadier Platoon, a Panzergrenadier Platoon or a Reconaissance Platoon. You can use the Panzergrenadier Platoon box (GBX169) to provide the infantry for this second platoon and from there you just need to decide if you want to add additional half-tracks. We suggest just adding a classic Panzergrenadier Platoon on foot for another 15 points as it is packed with anti-tank Panzerschrecks and will be more than capable of defending one of your objectives.

Next up we suggest adding some additional tanks and perhaps some reconnaissance. The Panther tank is heavily armoured and packs a powerful 75mm gun that can crack the armour of almost any other tank on the battlefield. Adding three of these for 33 points takes care of a lot of your remaining points but should easily earn them back over the course of a game. A Panther Tank Platoon box (GBX161) contains five tanks which means you have a couple of tanks spare for future expansion.

A Puma Scout Troop box (GBX172) contains four Puma or Sd Kfz 234 reconnaissance vehicles, and you can field two of them for another 4 points. These will give you some scouting troops that can help your units get a pre-game Spearhead move to help reduce the amount of time that it will take to get to the enemies objectives.

American Players
For American players the Counterattack bundle can go one of two ways; a Rifle Company with Sherman tanks in support, or a Sherman Company with infantry in support. Both options are enjoyable to play and provide an interesting experience. We suggest a good starting point is taking the Veteran M4 Sherman Tank Company with a pair of tanks and a Veteran M4 Sherman Tank Platoon of three 76mm armed tanks and a Rifle Platoon with some additional weapons teams for a total of 39 points.

The Veteran M4 Sherman Tank Company requires that you field an HQ along with two tank platoons. The HQ and first tank platoon are included in this bundle and for the second platoon you can choose from either a platoon of Shermans (just like the ones in the HQ) or Stuarts. You can also choose a third platoon which must be more Shermans. An M4 Sherman Tank Platoon box (UBX69) will give you five more tanks that can built as either 75mm or 76mm tanks. If you build four of them with 75mm guns that will spend 17 of your remaining 61 points, and if you upgrade your first platoon to also have four tanks (with the remaining tank from the box) that will leave you with 38 points to spend.

An M5 Stuart Platoon box (UBX70) will help to reinforce your Formation and make it more resilient, as well as giving you a light tank to deal with enemy half-tracks and reconnaissance units. Five of them are 13 points and leave you with 25 points to spend.

To round out the force we suggest some Tank Destroyers and Artillery. An M36 and M10 Tank Destroyer Platoon box (UBX89) will give you four M10 Tank Destroyers for 16 points, whilst a M7 Priest Artillery Battery box (UBX73) will give you three self-propelled guns for another 8 points. This leaves you with one solitary point to spend and for this you could check out the Lucky Command Card should you need a re-roll.
