Super-Sizing Big Four British
With Chris Townley

Since the release of Late War I have painted, I think, close to 190 miniatures (tanks, infantry teams, guns etc) for my British Army. I still have a list of around 20-30 models that I want to paint to “finish” the army; some more infantry, M5 halftracks, MMG carriers and so on, but I considered the army largely finished…and then came Late War Leviathans!

Big Four British

Late War Leviathans started incubation a long time ago when we created the Mid War Monsters range of models as something fun for people to try out in their games and of course it didn’t take long before people started asking for a Late War Leviathans range. Incidentally, “Leviathans” was the name that the community came up and it just stuck ever since. Fast forward 10+ years and we found ourselves in the position to be able to deliver on this request… we had been building a range of plastic miniatures for WWIII: Team Yankee, Clash of Steel and World of Tanks that were perfect for Leviathans, we just needed some of the extra support choices to really flesh it out. Strangely it was these extra models that hooked me… I “needed” a unit of Hornets with their Malkara missiles!

As Wayne was working on the book I started playing around with a few lists and broadly settled on something like this as starting point.

The List

Chris Leviathans List

As you can see it uses a pile of models from my existing British army, including some of the more expensive units that you sometimes struggle to fit into an army like Comets and Challengers, but also a selection of the new models that we were planning on including. I started by grabbed some Centurions and Tortoise tanks and quickly painted them – I knew we would eventually need them for book photography anyway, but I also wanted to strike whilst the iron was hot and paint something immediately whilst I was excited. I painted 7 and 3 respectively, which I know is pretty restrained considering the rest of my British, as that covered my initial requirements and meant that I could start playing some games.

Tortoise

Fast forward a year and despite Evan having made the additional (non-plastic) options for my army I still haven’t actually gotten around to painting them… distractions like Italian tank armies for Mid War and kids weekend sports have meant that my painting output this year has been a tad inconsistent. Victor kindly tagged in and painted some for the book photography – he even managed to paint them in my style, but better than I can paint! However now that the release of the models is just around the corner, Kevin has a set of all the new models that he has been using for Assembly Guides so I might steal them once he is finished and find some time to once again “complete” my British army!

 Upcoming Miniatures

If you haven’t checked out Late War Leviathans make sure you read Wayne’s spotlight you might just find that you can add a couple of interesting units to your existing Late War army, paint some cool models that perhaps you might not have otherwise had the chance to do, and play some interesting what-if games.
