British Pacific Command Cards

Exploring British, Indian and Australian Command Cards
By John Lee

As you might expect, the Pacific: British, Australian, and Indian pack has many of the same Command Cards as other nations like Softskin Transport, Lucky, etc. However, you will also find a great variety of cards for Warriors, Unit and Formation builds, as well as cards that enhance a particular part of your Force’s capabilities. You will find plenty of flavourful cards as well to give your force a feel all its own. As an example, there are several different build cards. The card pack includes cards for British, Australian, and Indian units.

Captured Italian 47mm Guns

The first card is Captured Italian 47mm Guns. It allows you to replace all 2pdrs in a 2pdr Anti-tank Platoon. Your AT drops from AT7 to AT6 and you lose the Gun Shield rule, but you now get guns that can move 8” at Tactical or Terrain Dash and 12” at Cross Country or Road Dash. This is useful when you need them to keep up with your infantry when attacking to support assaults and can cross difficult terrain with impunity.

Gurkha Rifle Company

Another example of a unique and interesting build card is the Gurkha Rifle Company command card for an Indian Rifle Company HQ or Indian Rifle Platoon. They gain the Mountaineer rule which allows them to cross a mountain or cliff side as a terrain dash if they were stationary and passed a skill test. They also gain a better skill with the now amazing assault hitting on 2+ and now careful being hit on 4+. Combined with being Fearless and the War Cry rule where your opponent has to reroll their first counterattack roll, make these units absolutely fearsome!

Local Porters

The next interesting build card is for the Australians, and it’s called Local Porters. It gives an infantry or gun unit an additional 4” dash movement and gains the Mountaineer rule. This means that the unit could potentially move up to 16” with a Blitz or Follow Me – particularly if it’s a Rifle Platoon to get into assault position quickly with their 2+ assault rating! Also, for 2pdr AT guns and 25pdr artillery, adding 4” to their dash speed gives them mobility to keep up with the advancing infantry to provide that critical support.

Engineer Platoon

The last interesting build card we will look at is the Engineer Platoon command card, again for the Australian’s. Taking the same ratings as a Rifle Platoon, you can take ten teams or thirteen teams. On top of that they can Dig In, cross Minefields and Barbed Wire on 2+. Oh, and of course they inherit their 2+ assault rating. With thirteen teams, they are robust and hard to shift and deadly to attack with. A no brainer to take.

The Chindits Special Force

The next interesting build card is for the Australians, and it’s called Local Porters. It gives an infantry or gun unit an additional 4” dash movement and gains the Mountaineer rule. This means that the unit could potentially move up to 16” with a Blitz or Follow Me – particularly if it’s a Rifle Platoon to get into assault position quickly with their 2+ assault rating! Also, for 2pdr AT guns and 25pdr artillery, adding 4” to their dash speed gives them mobility to keep up with the advancing infantry to provide that critical support.

Coastwatcher

One of the more interesting Force cards is Coastwatcher for the Australians.  Coastwatcher allows you to reposition one of your ranged in markers after deployment – anywhere on the table.

Parkash Singh

There are six warriors you can field (one British, two Indian and three Australian) of which the most interesting one for the Indian Army is Parkash Singh.  For a recce unit either Indian Pattern Carrier Patrol or Indian Universal Carrier Patrol, he gives the unit a better Remount of 2+ and he assaults on a 3+.  Nice to see a warrior in a role for a recce unit.

Jack French

Of the three Australian warriors, Jack French is an interesting one for a Rifle Platoon. He hits on a 2+ in assaults and counterattacks on a 2+. That’s right, assault time! If this unit gets into an assault, they are almost certain to clear the enemy off the objective.
