12.2cm FH396(r) howitzers

One of these was the 12.2cm FH396(r) a captured Soviet 122mm obr 1938 field howitzer. This was a well prized weapon taken in some numbers and extensively employed by the Germans in artillery units and as coastal defence weapons.

In 1943 a total of 281 12.2cm FH396(r) were in German service.

When the 21. Panzerdivision was rebuilt in France in 1943 the 12.2cm FH396(r) was utilised to refit the towed artillery component of the division.

In Normandy the 716. Infanteriedivision’s 989. Artillerieabteilung was also equipped with the 12.2cm FH396(r). On D-Day their headquarters was at Reviers (east of Bayeux).

A 21. Panzerdivision Motorised Artillery Battery armed with the 12.2cm FH396(r) (it is mistakenly listed as a FH316(r) in the diagram and arsenal) can be fielded in support of any 21. Panzerdivision company from Monty’s Meatgrinder.

The 21. Panzerdivision 12.2cm FH396(r) howitzers can also be found supporting a 716. Infanteriedivision Festungskompanie from their briefing.

The 716. Infanteriedivision Festungskompanie can also have its own Confident Trained battery from the 989. Artillerieabteilung armed with 12.2cm FH396(r) in support.

12.2cm FH396(r) howitzer The 12.2cm FH396(r) howitzer is Immobile and has a direct fire Range of 24”/60cm, ROF 1, Anti-tank 8 and Firepower 2+. It is fitted with a Gun shield.

Firing Bombardments it has a Range of 80”/200cm, Anti-tank 3 and Firepower 4+.
