The Suomi (or Finland in English) was a submachine-gun developed during the 1920s – 1930s by the Finnish weapons designer Aimo Lachti. The first prototype was built in 1922 and by 1926 Lachti had perfected his creation which was later adapted by the Finnish Army in 1931 under the designation of Suomi-KP Model 1931 or simply KP-31 (KP short for
Konepistooli
; Finnish for automatic pistol).

Rising Sun
Rising Sun brings you into the Soviet Union’s wars with the Japanese and Finns on its borders in 1939. Take command of the Red Army’s tank forces, infantry or cavalry forces as you throw the Japanese back into Manchuria or fight the stubborn Finns to expand the Soviet border.

The KP-31 was used to great effect during the
Winter War
(30 November 1939 – 13 March 1940) against the forces of the Soviet Union and established the role of the submachine-gun in modern warfare. Its influence was such that when a 71-round drum was developed for the KP-31, the Soviets were inspired to do the same with the PPSh-41. While production of the KP-31 ended in 1944, the weapons remained in service into the 1990s.

Each Finnish division has a light detachment which includes a
Jääkari
(
Jäger
or Light Infantry) Battalion of three companies. These companies are more lightly equipped than normal infantry companies and have three platoons per company instead of the usual four platoons. They also have more transport and are more nimble than infantry companies.
Their tactics emphasise speed and mobility, utilising skis during the Winter War to swiftly move through the forests. These highly motivated and skilled fighters are men from rural areas and have excellent fieldcraft skills.
