IS-3M Platoon (AARBX01) IS-3M Platoon (AARBX01)
includes three IS-3M tanks, three .50 cal AA MGs, one Tank Commander sprue & six Rare earth magnets.

Unlike the Western nations, the Soviet Union continued with heavy tank development long after WWII. First seen by Western nations at the 1945 Victory Parade in Berlin, the IS-3 was an evolutionary development of the Iosif Stalin series of heavy tanks used extensively during World War Two.

Fate Of A Nation
The fate of a nation hangs in the balance. Israel cannot lose even a single battle. One defeat would mean the destruction of the tiny Jewish state. Not waiting to be attacked by the Arab forces massing on its borders, Israel strikes first.

Fate Of A Nation
IS-3M Platoon (AARBX01) The IS-3 heavy tank made excellent use of sloped armour on the hull and had a hemispherical turret which would be seen on nearly all post-war Soviet tanks. Armed with the outstanding D-25T 122mm gun, the IS-3 was, however, relatively slow and suffered from reliability issues, especially in the hot desert.

Egypt acquired roughly 100 of these tanks, assigning them to support the T-34/85 tanks in the infantry divisions and back up the T-55 tanks in the mechanised and armoured divisions. Their combat results during the Six-Day War were not auspicious.

Whether poorly designed, unsuitable for the conditions, or requiring more maintenance than current supply considerations will allow, these vehicles have a significant chance of breakdown when pushed too hard.

If an Unreliable vehicle attempts to move At the Double, roll a die. On a roll of 1 the vehicle becomes Bogged Down.

No Saves from Big Guns
Some weapons are just so powerful that there is no chance of surviving a hit from them. These heavy guns are often mounted in tanks and self-propelled guns designed to break through enemy defensive lines.

Infantry teams, Gun teams, Passengers, and Unarmoured vehicles automatically fail their Saves when hit by a Breakthrough Gun or a Bunker Buster. This does not apply to Artillery Bombardments.

Slow Traverse
Most tanks were either fitted with power traverse or had turrets that were light enough to be quickly swung by hand. Some designs suffered from heavy turrets lacking power traverse.

Tanks with slow traverse add +1 to the score required to hit when shooting any turret-mounted weapon except an AA MG at targets that are entirely behind a line drawn across the front of the tank’s turret before they rotate their turret to face the target.

Assembling The IS-3M
Step 1. Begin assembly of the IS-3M by attaching the tracks to each side of the hull. Below: Each track has been keyed to correspond with a particular side of the hull; this aids in ensuring the correct orientation of the tracks when assembling the miniature.

Tip: When referring to left or right-hand side in regards to a Flames Of War miniature, the orientation is determined as if looking at the vehicle from the rear.

Tip: Always dry fit (Dry Fitting is assembling components of a model without any glue. This ensure that they go fit together correctly before a permanent bond is created and allows for any fine adjustments to be made.) components before final assembly.

Adding A Tank Commander
While is may look like one large hatch, the turret hatch on an IS-3M is actually uses a split hatch arrangment with both hatches opening in a forward direction. This offers a couple of alternate ways to represent Tank Commanders when assembling the IS-3M.
Method One Method Two
Step 1. Attach the turret hatch as one- piece in the open position. Step 2. Next, add a Tank Commander to the inside of the turret. Cut the turret in half using a hobby knife and model the hatch with one side open and the other closed.

Using Rare-earth Magnets
The alternate method of attaching the turret to the hull is to use the rare-earth magnets included in the box set. To do this, simply glue a rare-earth magnet to the bottom of the turret. Then glue another magnet into recess located on the top of the hull and you have a safe and secure way of attaching the turret to the hull.
