The Bridge over the Savio

For more about the action see “Smokey” Smith…

By Andrew J Lucas

The Canadian infantry have just succeeded in taking the Savio Bridge in Italy, near the Gothic line, and are consolidating their position when a German counterattack begins.

Setting up:

The Canadians deploy their infantry (with the exception of Smokey Smith) on one side of the river in Foxholes and Gone to Ground.

The river is treated as impassible terrain to vehicles and gun teams and infantry teams must make a skill test to successfully cross. A failed test will result in the effected stand being removed from play.

The battle occurs at night and is subject to the  Night Fighting rules (page 113, Flames Of War).

Once the Canadians deploy the German forces may deploy their forces anywhere up to 8”/20cm of the river and 16”/40cm of the bridge.

After both sides have deployed, the Canadian player may initiate an Ambush (page 103, Flames Of War) with Smokey Smith (for this Scenaro Smokey Smith is a Unit of one team), and may deploy him anywhere in the German half of the table.

Delayed Reserves: After 3 rounds the Canadian player may begin rolling for delayed reserves.

Objective is the bridge and victory conditions as No Retreat.
