Notes on the Staff Firestorm Campaign
There have been a few questions concerning the Staff Campaign so I thought it would be good to have a quick word or two about it, how it all came about, and how it was played.
The Firestorm Campaign system was a very unique development project for the Battlefront Studio. It occupied our hearts and minds for many months and it included input from beyond the studio itself. The project was dynamic, constantly changing as we tested things that worked and didn’t work. After rigorous testing in both the studio and with our great playtest groups, we finally hit upon the Firestorm system.
After all the playtesting was done, we thought that it would be fun to operate a relaxed Firestorm campaign with the staff and our local playtest group. We wouldn't be playtesting and we could play at our leisure and most importantly, we could play with our own miniatures. So, we all brought our armies and we played, having a lot of fun. We
documented it with the thought it would make a great web article series
and give a small insight as to what’s going on at Battlefront HQ.

For some of us it was a chance to make up new armies. I took the
opportunity to put my new IS-2 company to the test. I furiously
painted up my battalion and all their tank riders and sent them to
their death against the hordes of Brummbars and Hummels. Still, I had
fun. Others, used whatever armies they had, including British and
American forces creating some interesting situations!
Our campaign was very relaxed and open. In fact some players weren’t
even tied down to a specific side. These “fair weather” players (as we
affectionately called them) bounced from side to side, playing various
armies and testing out their new forces.
In the end, we all had a good time and we felt it would be great to
share it with you all. The Firestorm system is very flexible and will
allow players and campaign managers latitude to create their own
campaign. For instance, you could run a very historical campaign with
historical forces if you like. Or if your club, group or venue does not
have sufficient players with German and Soviet armies, then the system
is flexible enough to handle that as well!
It all comes down to how you and your group of players want to play the
Firestorm system. Our staff campaign is a great example of a relaxed
and informal campaign among friends.
Happy gaming,
Mike
