Mark V (GBBX02)

Mark V (GBBX02)
Includes two Mark V tanks

The Mark V was a more reliable improvement on the Mark IV and was used in the later battles of 1918. 'Female' tanks could unleash a torrent of machine-gun fire, while 'Male' tanks would smash the enemy trenches with high-explosive six-pounder fire.

1918 saw great changes in the warfare of the Western Front. Russia pulled out of the war, freeing thousands more German troops to push the Allies back huge distances. The Allied counteroffensives, with the new tanks, evolving tactics, and the arrival of the Americans, forced the Germans back towards their own borders and defeat.

Landships

In Flames Of War, some tanks are Landships and use the special rules on pages 6-7 of Great War, in addition to the other Great War Tanks rules.

Most notably, Landships can withstand a lot of punishment and still keep fighting. When shooting or artillery would usually destroy a Landship, a second Firepower Test is made, and if it fails, the Landship is only Damaged, and a Damage marker is placed on the Landship.

The Mark V Female in Great War
The Mark V ‘Female’ variant replaced the two six pounder guns with two more .303" Hotchkiss Mk 1 machine-guns – a total of six machine-guns! There was also a version with one of each sponson type, creating a Mark V ‘hermaphrodite’.

Step 2. Next, attach the stowage brackets to the top of the Mark V. These may require some gently bending in order to align with the contours of the Mark V hull.  Step 3. Attach the MG to the front of the hull.

Assembling The Mark V Female Sponsons
Each Mark V Female uses two female sponsons. These sponsons are ambidextrous and therefore can be used on both sides of the vehicle. Step 1. Add the machine-guns to the sponsons.

Using Rare Earth Magnets To Attach The Sponsons
If you don't want to permanently attach the sponsons to the hull, you can use rare earth magnets in order to swap them out to create any combination of Mark V Male and Female tanks.

Learn more tricks and tips on using Rare Earth Magnets here...
Step 1. Attached a rare earth magnet into the sponson recess. Step 2. Attach a rare earth magent into the back of the sponsons.
