Week Three:
Rob Villnave
What a week! Not only did I accomplish every goal but my remaining artillery HQ and 25 pdr blisters came in. Everything is assembled, sprayed and based according to my week 2 update. Things seem to be going as planned.
Below:
The 5.5s are assembled and ready to be primed. The observer’s universal carrier has been sprayed British Armour.
One thing that left me hanging was what to do with the bases. I did want to do something special but anything too elaborate would slow down what progress I had made.
Below:
The 25 pdrs are assembled but I need to get the staff team, command teams, and observer assembled.
So I just settle for a basic earthy base. I do however plan to go back and add in fallen tree branches, shrubs and a few things that will help bring some extra life to the project.
Below:
The first Rifle Platoon cleanedup and assembled.
All of these things can be done once the infantry are painted so I can finish in time for the game at Historicon 2012. At this same time I can also add a few camouflage bits to my tanks and tank destroyers.
Below:
The second Rifle Platoon cleaned up and assembled.
Looking back now at my carriers I think I would have been better served to leave the crew out and add them in once the carriers were done. I still have time to pop them out. I just think it will make for a better presentation, and it should speed up over all painting.
Below:
The M10 Achilles are fully assembled and sprayed British Armour.
And the bonus to this week’s update is I was able to go back to my tanks and finish some painting on them. This is my reward for the hard work of assembling everything at once. The painting is the fun part for me. I now get to see the units come to completion one at a time. You will see my focus shift from working on multiple units at a time to single platoons. This way I maximize my output and will end the project, hopefully, with nothing in a half-finished stage.
Below:
Two carrier patrols ready for some detail painting.
Thanks for sharing your time with me this week. See you again real soon.
~ Rob.
