Tale of Two Cities

Week Three:
Bruce Beardsley

So as week three begins I am “playing that most American…err, German of games…catch up…” I am going to be a little on the cautious side this week as I try to get up to where I want to be.

Below: The Panzergrenadier HQ, with Panzerschreck team thrown in. What you can’t see too well is the red Nazi arm band on the Oberführer (on the far right). I will have to have a word with Joe…

I am finishing all the vehicles (with the exception of my transfers) and my Panzergrenadier HQ and Panzergrenadier Platoon.  Fully painted and based…that’s my goal and I am sticking to it. My biggest hurdle (mostly physiological, I’m convinced…) is trying to make EACH, Panzergrenadier uniform unique. Trying to incorporate different uniforms and patterns into the same unit, while making each soldier different this has been the bane and triumph of these Panzergrenadiers.  So far the paints that I have been using are:

Battlefield Brown (FWP324)Army Green (FWP342)Panzer Grey (FWP303)Panther Yellow (FWP365)Heer Green (FWP340); Citadel Camo Green; Citadel Seraphim Sepia and Citadel Shade: Nuln Oil.
Below: My first platoon of Panzergrenadiers; the bane of my camouflage painting existence! I wanted to make it look authentic, …but darn!

I have been giving the skin a base of the Battlefield Brown (FWP324) and then went back over with Citadel Elf Flesh and then a wash of Seraphim Sepia.  Now for my tracks (on the StuG’s and Half Tracks) I started with Citadel Tin Bitz, washed with the Seraphim Sepia, drybrushed with Citadel Boltgun Medal and then washed with the Citadel Nuln Oil.
Below: My two Achtung! StuGs with base coat, one wash camo and a Middlestone dry brush; they're coming along.

Now I know what you’re saying…”So many Citadel color’s…what the...what?” It’s just what I had on the shelf readily available at the house, so I went with it. I will try to be better in the future…my bad.

Right: The one and only Tiger I E! This one still has the factory shiny ‘Disco Treads’ (pre-wash and weather). I don’t think that the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking was known for their ‘Tank Bling.’
