Parachute Mortar Platoon
(US725)
As the battle develops, Paratroopers wil want access to more and more fire support to take the objectives. The first cab off the rank are the four M1 81mm mortars of the Battalion’s Parachute Mortar Platoon.
Quick to deploy, mobile and accurate, it’s likely these men will have fired their whole mission before the guys on the beach will’ve got the sand out of their radios!

Mortars are the obvious choice as a support weapon for airborne operations. They are light, quick and easy to set-up and the crew transport all they need themselves.
Having immediate high-explosive firepower on hand is vital for the Paratroopers who will often have to hold an objective for quite sometime before relief from ground forces can arrive.
In Flames Of War
Four mortar tubes can cause a considerable amount of damage on an unprepared enemy. The US M1 81mm mortar has Range 40”/100cm, AT 2, FP 6 and can fire Smoke Bombardment when required.
It is a Man-packed gun so the crews can keep their weapons up with the rapidly moving Parachute Riflemen.
