Hurricane IIC

New Zealand Divisional Cavalry go to the Tourney

Rather like the kiwis heading to war almost 70 years ago, I was filled with excitement, I had a plan, and I thought I would be done in time to go and milk the cows (okay, so maybe not the cow part). After some planning and research I put together a list I was reasonably happy with and got the figures ready to go. It was about that time that the plan started to come apart…

Filled with confidence about the amount of time I had and the fact I only had a reasonably small number of things to paint I progressed at a slow pace, getting the vehicles base coated and magic washed, ready to start doing some detail work. It was at this stage that the army remained for the better part of a month. Now with the tournament approaching I got my second wind and through a combination of late nights and weekends I managed to get the army tabletop ready. I’ll have some pictures of the force next week for you to check out.

As for the tournament itself I had a great time. There is something to be said for an army that cannot really have a stand up fight with armour and this resulted in my having to learn the finer details of recon tactics! My win/loss ratio was not that flash, with a string of 3-4 results and a lonely pair of wins (4-3 and 5-2).
Carrier Patrol
HQ Stuart tanks Because there were so many maneuver elements it was easy to find a couple of enemy platoons that I could jump on and destroy, however the same was also true of my army to an extent. This was because it does not take much to kill a couple of Carriers or Stuarts to force a motivation test. The biggest surprise over the weekend was that the meta-game seemed to have changed with tanks being far more common than infantry lists. Needless to say this had a big effect on my results!
The army itself was really missing some 6 pdr portees and infantry, which I have now rectified. I just need to find time to paint them. Of course Panzerschrek (the original Flames of War tournament) is coming up and Panzerregiment Bake is a tempting option!
