FlamesCon 2013 - Tournament Scoring

FlamesCon Tournament Q&A
with Phil Yates

We’ve been busy organising all of the bits and pieces for FlamesCon 2013, and on the top of our list (and no doubt yours) is talking about how the FlamesCon tournaments going to be scored. The best person to ask about how the tournament will be scored is our man in Auckland: Phil Yates! I’ve put together a short Q&A about the event to help answer some of the questions about scoring.

Q: My tournament score will be split three ways between Generalship, Sportsmanship, and Army. What is the split between these scores?

A: Generalship is worth 60% of your overall score. Each game's score is based on a balance between Victory Points and games won.

Sporting Play is worth 20% of your overall score. The game-by-game sporting scores are worth 14% and the final player votes are worth 6%.

Army Presentation is worth 20% of your overall score.

Q: How is the Generalship score calculated?

A: Generalship is worth 60% of your overall score.
Each game's score is based on a balance between Victory Points and games won.

For the 2-Day Late War GT: There are 6 games, so each is worth 10% of your overall score.

For the 1-Day Late War and Early War Tournaments: There are 3 games, so each is worth 20% of your overall score.

This breaks down as follows:

For the 2-Day Late War GT: Each Victory Point you earn is worth 1.42% of your overall score for a maximum of 8.57%. Winning a game is worth an additional 1.42% of your overall score.

For the 1-Day Late War and Early War Tournaments: Each Victory Point you earn is worth 2.84% of your overall score for a maximum of 17.14%. Winning a game is worth an additional 2.84% of your overall score.

Q: How is the Sportsmanship score calculated?

A: Sporting Play is worth 20% of your overall score.

The game-by-game sporting scores are worth 14% and the final player votes are worth 6%.

For the 2-Day Late War GT: There are 6 games, so the sporting score for each is worth 2.33% of your overall score. This makes each of the five yes/no sporting-play questions worth 0.47%.

For the 1-Day Late War and Early War Tournaments: There are 3 games, so the sporting score for each is worth 4.66% of your overall score. This makes each of the five yes/no sporting-play questions worth 0.94%.

At the end of the tournament the player with the most sporting votes receives 6%. The other players get a proportional amount depending on the number of votes they receive.

Q: How is the Army Presentation score calculated?

A: Army Presentation is worth 20% of your overall score.

The quality of presentation (including painting and modelling), judged at the dress parade, is worth 12%.

The player with the most votes during the dress parade receives 8%. The other players get a proportional amount depending on the number of votes they receive.

Q: I noticed this does not cover the Mid War Tournament. Why is that?

A: Gavin van Rossum has graciously volunteered to run the Mid war tournament. It’s his event so he had put together his outline about how the event is going to run. He’s got a great run-down on the tournament, which you can find here:
