T27 Xylophone Rocket Launcher Battery (UBX39) includes two one-piece resin T27 Xylophone Rocket Launchers with Loading Crews, Command Carbine team, Observer Carbine team, one Small three-hole base & one Small two-hole base. When the United States entered the Second World War in 1941, the US armed forces were lacking any form of rocket in their arsenal. However, weapons developers were quick to remedy this and developed the relatively simple but effective Rocket, HE, 4.5-in, M8. In early December 1944 it seemed, to the Americans facing them in the Ardennes forests of Belgium and Luxembourg, unlikely that the Germans would attack. Learn more about Devil's Charge here...

The simple design of the M8 made it easy to manufacture; but being only fin-stabilised meant the rocket was inaccurate and had to be utilised in large numbers to saturation an area for a bombardment to be effective. One method delivering the large numbers required for an effective bombardment was the T27 Xylophone rocket launcher; which mounted racks of M8 rockets on the back of a 2½ ton truck. Other methods of delivering mass fire were the T34 Calliope which mounted no fewer than sixty launching tube on the turret of a Sherman tank. Though the M8 rocket had served US forces well, its inherent lack of accuracy, ineffectiveness against hard targets along with the insights gained from captured German rocket led to the development of the spin-stabilised M16 rocket. The T27 Xylophone Rocket Launcher

The 2nd Infantry Division was the first to experiment with the T27 4.5” (114mm) Xylophone rocket launcher during the battle of Brest in August 1944. They rated them poorly because they were not effective as single launchers. To fix this, the artillerymen have paired up the launchers and put them on the back of a 2½-ton truck for better mobility and stronger bombardments.

Assembling the Rocket Launcher Rack

Step 1. Attach frame part D to the base of frame part B.	Step 2. Next, attach the top of frame part C to the cross bar of frame part B and gently bent the support brackets into place as shown below.	Step 3. Attach the rocket launcher rack to the top of the frame.	Step 4. Finally, attach the launcher frame to the bed of the 2½ tonne truck.
