The OQF 3.7” gun was Britain’s primary heavy anti-aircraft gun during World War II. Featured in both Mid and Late war periods, we take a look at how to assemble this model and which colours are suitable for each phase of the war.

The Contents

Assembling the Gun Base

Begin by attaching the Gun Base Plate Legs to the Gun Base Plate as shown in the photo to the right.

The numbers represent which component is used, see the components diagram above for more details.

Assembling the Gun Cradle

Next up is the Gun Cradle, assemble the Gun Cradle as shown below using the components outlined:

The Gunnery Platform attaches to the of the Gun Cradle.

To ensure a correct fit, the tab on the Gunnery Platform must be flush with the side of the Gun Cradle.

There is a notch between the Gun Cradle Mount and the Gun Cradle in which the Gunnery Platform fits.

Now insert the Gunnery Platform using the techinque shown below:
Swing the Gunnery Platform into place.
Mount the Gun Barrel onto the of Gun Cradle as shown:

Finally, attach the Gun Trail Wheels to the Front Gun Trail and Seperate Gun Trail:

Once the gun is assembled, it is time to start thinking about painting and what colours to use.

An example of a Late War 3.7" Anti-aircraft gun can be seen to the right, as featured in Hell's Highway.

Note: When engaging ground targets the gun crew would face forward as shown in this example.

3.7" Heavy Anti-Aricraft Gun Painted for Mid War Here Jeremy has modelled the the 3.7" gun in its more traditional role, targeting aircraft.

The example to the left is painted for the desert theatre during Mid War as featured in North Africa.

Note: The gun crew would face backwards to avoid the muzzle flash.
