They are much more focused on close-combat than the normal infantry having flame-throwers and demolition charges, but fewer machine-guns, mortars, and assault guns than the Panzergrenadiers. The large number of half-tracks the Panzerpionier platoons need to carry both troops and engineering stores gives them plenty of firepower on the move, the ability to clear obstacles in the offensive, and place obstacles when defending. The SS-Panzerpionier Platoon is truly an elite force on the battlefield. Because of this you will be asked to do more with less troops every time.

Fortunately your troops have the firepower to suppress enemy infantry with ease and the explosive charges they need to blow apart any tank in close combat.  A full strength SS-Panzerpionierabteilung is even stronger than a Heer Panzerpionierabteilung:

However, as with many German divisions in Normandy the battalions are often under-strength. Panzerpioniers are equipped with a variety of pioneer equipment that includes:

* Mines and related items * Flamethrowers * Bridging equipment and boats * Explosive charges, detonators and shaped charges * Remote Control Demolition Vehicles

In Flames Of War In Cobra you can field an SS-Panzerpionierkompanie from either the 2. SS-Panzerdivision ‘Das Reich’ or 12. SS-Panzerdivision ‘Hitlerjugend’. Around you core of Fearless Veteran pioneers you add a good mix of Divisional Support troops build a small, but powerful, assault force.

As a Mechanised Company you will sometimes be defending against tanks, but your Panzerpionier Platoons will make short work of these with their AT4 in Assaults, Flame-throwers, and Goliath demolition carriers.  Of course you can also take the SS-Panzerpionier Platoon in support of other SS-Kompanies such as the SS-Panzerkompanie, Gepanzerte SS-Panzergrenadierkompanie, SS-Panzergrenadierkompanie, and SS-Panzerspähkompanie.
