Para Week

Para Week
Returning to Normandy for the release of Overlord and Atlantik Wall gives us an opportunity to dust off old armies and replay some of the most memorable battles of World War Two. Over the next six weeks we are going to share some of our favourite scenarios, rules and articles.

We hit the ground running this week as we take a look at the American and British Para forces that helped to pave the way into Normandy, as well as their German counterparts that tried to stem the tide.

Missions & Scenarios

The Battle of the La Fière Causeway
On D Minus One the men of the US 82nd ‘All American’ Airborne Division jumped into to Normandy with the mission of halting German reinforcements from reaching Utah Beach. The division’s two main drop zones were positioned around the French town of Sainte Marie Eglise in two large open areas. The Merderet River divided these two areas and thus became the first objective of the 82nd in order to consolidate their position.

Having both worked on the Turning Tide and Earth & Steel, Mike and I thought we should be the ones to bring you the first Normandy battle report on the website. While looking at the many forces in the books, we were at a bit of a loss what to start with. Then Mike had a great idea to re-fight the encounter between the German Panzer Ausbildungs und Ersatz Abteilung 100 and the US 82nd Airborne Division over the Merderet River on 6-9 June 1944.
