The Ardennes Offensive
In December 1944 the German forces on the Western Front made one last major push in the Ardennes and Alsace-Lorraine, trying to split the Allied forces in half and force them to negotiate a peace treaty. It was a daring all-or-nothing gamble.

GE844 HMG Platoon (Winter)

MG42 Light Machine-gun was often referred to as the best machine-gun of the war, the MG42 had an amazing rate of fire of 1200 rounds per minute. The German field manual recommended only firing 300 to 350 rounds per minute to reduce overheating and barrel wear. It had a quick-change barrel so a crew could replace the barrel if they needed to keep firing for a long period. Its high rate of fire gave it a unique ripping sound that was easily recognised. Its sound and reputation soon gave it a terror of its own, with Americans naming it ‘Hitler’s buzz saw’.

The MG42 could be used as a light machine-gun when fired from a bipod or as a heavy machine-gun when fired from a tripod which helped reduce recoil and increased accuracy with the help of an optic sight.

"Positioning them carefully to cover objectives and dig them in quickly will help secure your flank against marauding infantry and cavalry. With their ROF 6, they will absolutely devastate infantry in the open. Even when Pinned Down, they will still be tough to assault with their ROF 3."
