Late War 100 Point Tournament
with Andrew Thompson

On the 6-7 March 21, the Simpson Barracks Gaming Group in conjunction with the Eastern Barbarians of War hosted the Legacy Labour Day Late-War Tournament at the Simpson Barracks Sergeant’s (SGTs) Mess, Watsonia, Victoria, Australia. The aim of the activity was to raise money for Legacy Australia and to provide the opportunity for Australian Defence Force personnel to employ tactics and decision-making skills taught throughout their training on a simulated battlefield.

The weekend was also designed to foster a stronger relationship with the local gaming community by inviting non-Simpson Barracks Gaming Group members and Ex-Serving members in the opportunity to participate in the tournament while enjoying the atmosphere of the Simpson Barracks SGTs Mess.

The weekend kicked off in true gentlemanly style with the guests being invited to dine in style and have breakfast in the dining room. Then we got on to business and completed three rounds on Day One. There were 10 tables set up for the event with Alistair Ross and Andrew Thompson providing the terrain. By the end of the first day there had been some hotly contested games and I think one of the Monday Night’s players was still feeling a bit worse for wear. But hats off to him, as he struggled through the day.

Players were invited to attend dinner in the mess and then partake in some social gaming after wards. This is where some of the students on the Basic Regimental Officers course dropped in to try out their skills in tactics. It was an excellent night had by all.

Overall it was an excellent weekend which saw us raise over $1000.00 for Legacy Australia and some people walking away with some excellent raffle prizes.

A massive shout out to Battlefront, Aetherworks and Mountmorency RSL for their sponsorship and who without them the weekend would not of been possible. Also a big thank you to Alistair Ross, Chris Prout and Adam Mitchell for all their behind the scenes work in making the event possible.
