Phil At Panzerschreck XIX 2021
with Phil Yates
As some of you may already know we had Panzerschreck this year and in attendence were some of the Battlefront staff. Phil took some photos and notes throughout the event and today we are publishing them here. His partner was Ian Alejandro Madrid and they ran British armies with Churchills supporting British Airbourne. Read on to see how they did in their five games.

Game One
Game 1 against Bill and Josh with their mixed Panzer III and IV force with Tigers and over-long 88s. The mission was Scouts Out. The Tigers started with a strong attack into two Airlanding Platoons and three Churchills while their artillery massacred the Airlanding guys on the objective. We finally stopped the Tigers, mostly thanks to the woods and steep hills. By then the Panzers were arriving in strength. Despite our reserves having immense difficulty crossing terrain and losing a platoon of Churchill tanks, we finally pushed the German Panzergrenadiers off the objective with minutes to spare.

Game Two
Well, that was game 2. Simon McBeth and Chris Otton attached us in Spearpoint with a T-34 horde and engineer-sappers backed by IS-2 and ISU-122 heavy tanks. Our reserves came in where they were needed to counterattack strongly, but we were two turns short of the objectives at the end. Churchill tanks aren't great for dashing long distances. End result was a three-all mutual loss.

Game Three
Third game against Sofia Chambers and Leigh Watson in a Free-for-All. It was a revolving door with my Churchill tanks and half of the infantry going for one objective while the rest of the infantry and 6 pdr guns tried to hold off a tank horde. The stubborn refusal of Sofia's IS-2 tanks to die slowed my attack, and the massed tanks and SMG infantry cleared the Staffs infantry off the objective as I was preparing my assault.

Game Four
Game 4 against Gavin van Rossum and Andrew Munro and their Red hordes. We started the game caught between a storm group on Hamburger Hill and heavy armour behind us.

We came close to victory, despite my Crocodile flame-throwers failing miserably for turn after turn and once more the IS-2s surviving longer than I'd hoped. All-in-all, really hard fought and challenging game against some great opponents.

Game Five
Well that was the final game, #5. We attacked our old foes, John Lee and Ray O'Connor in a Fighting Withdrawal. The airlanding company attacked at night with the rest of the army contributing a pepperpot barrage. The enemy were a Hungarian Panther company and German Panzergrenadiers with over-long 88s in gun nests.

Well before dawn the airlanding were on the objective with heavy casualties in two platoons, but the third intact. The only thing preventing an outright victory were a pair of Panthers that withstood endless PIAT shots in the flanks and infantry assaults trying to drive them off. By the time dawn came and my trips were able to get over a big hill to see the Panthers, there were just seven infantry left holding a house against lots of tanks, but still only the two Panthers contesting the objective. My M10s got one, then a lucky shot from a 6 pdr Churchill got the other. This time the tanks arrived in time to relieve the airborne, just!
