Hamilton Immortals Club Champs (2020) with Rob Shirley
With the disruption of “normal-life” through the response to Covid-19, the club was behind schedule for getting the Flames Of War Champs started. We decided to crush it all into a one day event to get it done before the end of the Club Year on 30 June. It was held at my place out in Pirongia on 20 June 2020. My place is convenient as I have three 8’ x 4’ tables permanently set up in my wargaming garage. The cattle did not come over to check us out this year, we have destocked for winter. For the overseas persons reading this, on 9 June, NZ moved to everything being open and things like social distancing/lockdown all gone. By then we were on a fortnight of no cases existing in the country. All the efforts are being made at the borders.

We had 11 players, so decided to do three rounds of 50 points on 4’ x 4’. With the delay to the Battlefront production schedule, we also decided to play 50 points, one formation and all three rounds being Free for All.
All but one player took some sort of Armoured list. The Infantry list was blanked 1-8 in every game. In the past the player had previously won both the NZ Nationals and the NZ Masters events. Fifteen matches played, just one draw (of 3-1 – played between the 1st and one of the 2nd= finishers). Six of each of the scores were either 8-1 or 7-2. Armies were predominately German with the Soviets, Brits and Soviets being there.

The three placegetter armies all had 4 x Marders and lots of Armoured Cars. The differences were in the mix of 6 pdrs, 25 pdrs, Infantry Platoons and Italian Medium Tanks.
Planning is underway for our open Rallypoint Tournament here in Hamilton on 26 and 27 September.
A number of us are planning to play at the 4 person TeamWars at Upper Hutt on 15-16 August.
Auckland sees NorthWars 25/26 Jul (maybe later), FlamesCon 10/11 Oct and Masters 21/22 Nov. Panzershreck, which is LW doubles is possibly in Palmerston North on 11/12 Jul.
