Cancon 2018

Cancon 2018 - Team Yankee Report
With Sofia Chambers
CanCon (Canberra Convention) is held every Australia day weekend, this year Australia day fell on the Friday making a nice clean long weekend for the 40th anniversary CanCon event.  The Flames of War events included an EW campaign, MW 4ed and TY.  Our TY event attracted a range of WARPAC and NATO combatants (see table) with many flavours of formations + allies.  The most prevalent nations were Soviet and US, the Brits and East Germans were only present as ally formations.

We played three days in the Fitzroy shed with sometimes pseudo-aircon, otherwise 30 something degrees...  CanCon is a test of your mettle for sure.  We used Battle Plans from the get-go and stopped trying to match NATO vs WARPAC after round 2.  In this event we scored wins at 5, draws at 1 and losses at 0 points.  Many a fraught battle was fought

The winner by a clear margin was Garry Wait (US main, 18 platoons, 3 Formations, 1 Ally), second, Phil le Hunt (US A-cav, 7x M1IP) and third place Sofia Chambers (US Mech, 4x M1IP). Our best sport was Scott Elaurant and best painted was Mitchell Nolan, noted for attention to detail as well as attractive painting.  Ed Corsar (fourth) ran 10x M1IP all over the place with a huge kill tally but less wins and had only played a trial game or two before-hand, good work.  In the end we pulled the pin at 7 games out of the planned 8, as players were exhausted and needed shopping time at the myriad trade stands, and some left early with long road trips.

Cancon 2018

Huge thanks to our sponsors, Battlefront, Aetherworks, Dice of War, Jolt Games , War and Peace Games and Hall of Heroes.  Everyone took home the 2018 Tournament objective and a voucher from Aetheorks.  Our collected sponsors provided vouchers and swag to the winners, and a small mountain of great TY merchandise that was distributed to the players at large by random draw.
