SS Mortar Platoon
(GE795)
with one Command SMG team, six 8cm GW34 mortars with crew, three Observer Rifle teams, four Small bases & six Medium bases.
The 8cm GW34 (Granatwerfer 33, meaning grenade launcher model 1934) was a conventionally designed medium mortar. Mortar crews from other nations would find nothing strange or unusual about it when comparing it with their own weapons of the same type.

However, in the hands of an experienced crew the 8cm GW34 become the single most lethal weapon at the disposal of a German commander. German mortar crews gained almost mythic status among ally and enemy alike for their effectiveness.
Their reputation was boosted by the fact they had more opportunity to engage targets. It wasn’t that British and American crews were inferior, but by mid-war the Germans were on the defensive everywhere. That meant they were static while their opponents were advancing to contact, exposed to enemy fire. German mortar crews had ample experience to perfect this lethal trade.

"The six 8cm GW34 mortars in your platoon offer immediate and accurate support for your infantry company. They provide you with the ability to pin your opponents down while your troops manoeuvre into position to take the objective."
The Observer Rifle Teams
"Observer teams need a good view of the battlefield in order to do their job correctly. Be sure to deploy them in a position where they have an excellent view of the battlefield such as on a hilltop or on the top floor of a multi-level building."
"The SS Mortar Platoon featured in Burning Empires only uses one Observer Rifle team as part of the HQ section. However, the platoon organisation changed by Mid-war and an Observer Rifle team was attached to each mortar section. Therefore, the SS Mortar Platoon can be used in Early-war with Burning Empires and in Mid-war with Eastern Front."

The 8cm GW34 Mortar Teams
"The 8cm GW34 mortar is rated as a Man-packed; therefore it can move up to 6"/15cm in the movement step. This allows them to keep up with the infantry, making them ideal to move forward and support the infantry."
"The 8cm GW34 mortar has the ability to fire smoke as a Smoke bombardment. Smoke can be used to conceal your units as they advance across the table or to prevent a specific enemy unit from targeting your troops."
