KV-5 Tank Company (SBX83)

KV-5 Tank Company (SBX83)
includes two KV-5 Tanks and two Unit Cards.

The design of the KV-5 was almost complete by August 1941 and production of the prototype had begun when the approaching German Army forced the design team to evacuate to the Urals. The proposed tank was huge, and weighed 100 tons. The crew of six had plenty of room, but they were widely separated. Both the driver-mechanic and the radio operator/machine-gunner had separate compartments, the driver with their own vision cupola, and the machine-gunner with a rotating machine-gun cupola. The turret was large for its four man crew, with machine-gun cupola on top manned by one of the two loaders.

Eastern Front: Mid-war Forces
Despite being thrown back from the gates of Moscow in the winter offensive, the Germans were back on the attack in the summer of 1942 with their Hungarian and Romanian allies, advancing deep into Russia and setting up the epic confrontation at Stalingrad. Meanwhile up north, the Finnish army heroically held off repeated Soviet attacks into their territories. Then, as winter hit, the Soviets counterattacked, encircling whole armies in the face of determined resistance. In the summer of 1943, the Germans struck back as massed tank formations clashed, intent on destroying the Red Army at Kursk.
