The R-1 tankette equipped the mechanised reconnaissance squadrons of the cavalry brigades. The 5th, 6th and 8th Cavalry Brigades received six R-1 tankettes each, while the 1st, 7th and 9th Cavalry Brigades received four.

Assembling The R-1 Cavalry Light Tank
Assembling the turret is as simple as attaching the gunner's hatch.  To model the tank 'buttoned up', simply glue the hatch into the hole.

Tip: When referring to left or right-hand side in regards to a Flames Of War miniature, the orientation is determined as if looking at the vehicle from the rear.
If you want to model the tank with the gunner looking out of the hatch (optional) glue the hatch vertically open,... ...then glue the commander figure in place behind the hatch, which will help to hold the hatch in place.

Tip: Always dry-fit components before final assemblyDry Fitting is test-assembling components of a model without any glue. This ensures that they fit together correctly before a permanent bond is created and allows for any fine adjustments to be made.

The hull and tracks are conveniently cast in a single piece, which means most of the vehicle requires no assembly! A small round indentation shows the correct placement of the driver-fired hull machine-gun.

Although the R-1 was equipped with a driver-fired machine-gun, it was not practical for the driver to actually use it in combat while also driving the vehicle. That is why the R-1 is not listed as having a Hull MG in Flames Of War. A two-man crew is limited in how many tasks it can realistically perform at once!
Glue the hull machine-gun in place. The completed model.
