With Ryan Smith
With the launch of the new WWIII: West German range came a first for the team here at Battlefront HQ: A live battle report where the viewers control one army! We decided that there was no better way to show you the awesome new models than to let you control them over the internet.

The premise was simple. We’d pit the live chat with the West German forces against Luke, our editor here at the office, with some Soviet forces. Every West German turn, we’d work through the game phases, activating units in order, and letting the live chat vote on options with the most popular options being played out on the table. I’d be Chats’ arms and hands, doing the measuring and moving, rolling dice and hopefully dishing out the destroyed markers.

Friday afternoon the prep phase began. The table had already been set up (check it out here), and to make things run as smooth as possible we constructed two lists:

Chat would get to control a Leopard 2A5 Panzer Kompanie, which would feature both the new Leopard 2A5 and Marder 2 models, along with some Jaguars, Luchs and infantry.

The opposition would be Luke, controlling a Soviet T-64 Tank battalion, with BMP-3, infantry and Storm support.

We decided to keep the points low at 70 per army, to keep it simple as a trial run through. We decided on Dust Up as our mission, set reserves aside, placed objectives, deployed our units and got ready for the game!

Victory to Chat and the West Germans!

The table played a very important role in the strategy behind the battle. Playing corner to corner provided plenty of opportunities for both sides to both attack and defend, and playing alternate missions would have made for some very interesting games. However, having both the stream and treeline section off one portion of the table, so adding a bridge could have had a very big impact on the mobility of the Soviet forces and wouldn’t have looked out of place for the german setting.

All in all, all of us here at the Battlefront HQ are very happy with how it played out, and we all want to see it return! Keep an eye out on our socials to be notified of when we plan to go live and be there amongst the action!

Big thanks to Chat, and congratulations on the win.
