The first 40mm Bofors was produced in 1930 after the Swedish government approved the finance to put the 1928 design into production. The Bofors was exported and built under licence from 1932 onwards, and by 1938 18 different countries were using it. The British were one of the main producers of the 40mm Bofors. They made 3 variations and also made multiple barrel versions for navel use.
