Early-War Nationals at Historicon 2015
with David Griffin
This past weekend saw the Historical Miniature Gaming Society's largest annual event, Historicon 2015, in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
There was plenty of Flames Of War excitement. On Thursday the I-95 Gamers ran their Early-war doubles tournament, with 2000 points per team, over three rounds. And on Friday and Saturday the main even was the Early-War Nationals, a 1390-point tournament over six action-packed rounds.

Eric Camba and Mike Hall battle it out on Battlefront's surprise snow table, built by Jason Buyaki at Gale Force Nine. This was an epic battle of Soviets vs Finns in the snow. Both players agreed to use snow rules and had a great time! |

The tournament's came to a nail-biting conclusion, with the final standings really coming down to the wire. After dominating the first day with three 6-1 victories, everyone was expecting Chris Fretts and his French to romp to victory, and discussion turned to second and third place.
But then Chris's momentum faltered in the fourth round and he took a complete loss in the fifth, barely making it back into the three-way tie for first. Thanks to the tie-break system which compares the total victory points of each player's previous opponents, Chris narrowly secured overall first place, followed closely by Chris Jackson and Andrew Hopson.
