Tank Hunter Cars (GBX60)

Tank Hunter Cars (GBX60)
includes two Tank Hunter Cars with Panzer IV turrets.

With the outbreak of war in 1939 the Germans decided to set-up several trains. By 1941 the Germans were also using two captured Polish and a number of Czech armoured trains, in addition to earlier German trains.

With captured Polish and Russian trains as templates the Germans went about creating a standard model of armoured train in 1941. This was known as the BP42, and with later additions, the BP44. These new trains borrowed from the captured designs’ increased artillery capability over the existing German trains.

"The Tank Hunter Car is fitted with a Panzer IV turret armed with the KwK40 gun. This gun proved affected against all but the heaviest enemy tanks."
They also overcame some of the perceived design flaws in the captured trains by splitting the artillery car in two, leaving only one gun on each car reducing loss of firepower an artillery car was knocked out. Modern anti-aircraft guns and tank-hunter cars were also added making a formidable self-contained fighting unit.

During 1944 the Germans ran two Polish trains. These were Armoured Trains 21 and 22. Armoured Train 21 was armed with a mix of 10cm and 7.5cm guns. Armoured Train 22 was armed with 7.5cm guns. During 1944 these trains also received German BP44 Panzer IV turret tank-hunter cars. Armoured Train 23, while made up of ex-Czech cars also received some Polish cars and Russian two-turret artillery cars similar to the Polish models.

"The Tank Hunter Car has Protected ammo; this means that the crew are more willing to remount the turret if they are forced to Bailed Out."

Schürzen
The Panzer IV turret on the Tank Hunter Car is equipped with Schürzen. Schürzen are the thin armoured plates hung on the sides of some German tanks to protect them from infantry anti-tank weapons, like anti-tank rifles and bazookas.

When a tank that is protected by Schürzen is hit by a weapon with a Firepower of 5+ or on the Side armour by shooting and fails its Armour Save, roll a special 4+ Schürzen save:

• If the save is successful the Schürzen protects the tank from the side.

• If the save is not successful the shot penetrated the side armour as normal.
