Showdown in Prague - ETC 2015 Results
August 6-9 2015, Prague Exhibition Centre, Prague, Czech Republic

Many of the world’s most competitive wargamers travelled to the Czech Republic for the European Team Championship in Prague. There were two Flames Of War tournaments, starting with the ESC singles tournament on Thursday, which included 68 players, fighting it out over three rounds.

The teams event from Friday to Sunday was the largest Flames Of War event ever held, with 180 players in 30 six-player teams. 28 national teams represented their home countrties (with a few ex-patriates and guests here and there, making up the numbers), while two ‘UN’ teams were made up of multinational coalitions. It really was the World Cup of wargaming, and the teams got into the spirit, many of them wearing matching ‘uniforms’.

Anders Johansson from Battlefront’s UK office made the trip to the Czech Republic to check out the action, and in fact he found himself subbing for one of the players from Team Greece for the last two games of the tournament.

You can read Anders's full tournament report here...

The competition was hot, in more ways than one. For one thing, Prague was in the grip of an epic heatwave, and temperatures in the un-air-conditioned metal building housing the tournament were truly sweltering. But by all accounts everyone tolerated the punishing conditions as well as can be expected, and the spirit of healthy competition was not diminished.

Although the competitive aspect of such a prestigious event is always taken very seriously, it is also a fantastic opportunity to forge new wargaming friendships with like-minded people of all nations. So a true spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship abounded, as you can see in these photos, courtesy of the Facebook page of Team South Africa...
