Blitz and Peaces Store Profile – Blitz and Peaces
A Singaporean Store by gamers for gamers

Blitz and Peaces is a store in Singapore which began as a  started out as a partnership between two passionate Flames Of War gamers after their local closed games store closed down. They decided to take matters into their own hands and keep their local gaming community alive.

Store manager Benjamin Lin, who also runs an active YouTube channel under the alias Col. Clausewitz, tells us in his own words about the genesis of the store...

"Seems like a nice idea,” was how it all started. Like how a man in a mid-life crisis declares, “It would be so nice to own a restaurant” because he loves Italian food, as a gamer I thought it would be nice to try my hand at being a FLGS (friendly local game store). My local store was closing due to cost pressures and I couldn’t resist my childhood fantasies to be the knight in shining armour (and perhaps arms dealer!) and lo and behold, Blitz & Peaces was born!

It started with a bunch of ideas about how to push the historical gaming market in Singapore forward. We really only wanted to sell Flames Of War and maybe historical add-ons such as terrain and such. It was Flames Of War that really captured my imagination when it comes to WWII.

Now I am the biggest stockist of Flames Of War in Asia. My partners and I are all our own best customers (we foresaw this, so we don’t get any staff discounts), and I can’t find the time to do anything else. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to answer those who ask if you have certain things in stock; saying “Yes I do, and I’ll ship it out this Friday for you.” Just being part of the machine that helps people get their minis is fantastic.

The store is quite simple, we sell everything in SGD (Singapore Dollars) which is the local currency, and only accept PayPal. There are no frills or ads on our website, and everything direct and to the point. If you place an order above $90 SGD – which isn’t hard to hit – we give worldwide free shipping with tracking. If something is out of stock, we can usually be pretty sure our customers will see their order shipped within two weeks.

What we find really special about our store is that we are community-driven. The group that plays is a registered society here in Singapore and we really tailor our buying patterns and events to match the feeling of the group. This hand-in-hand approach is what we hope continues to ensure B&P’s success. We take serious feedback from the community in the way we do things and a lot of it is built on trust. I like to think we are a community first and a store second.

What does the logo mean?

The logo is actually a blend between the lightning blitz sign and the peace symbol. We took the internationally recognised symbol for peace and replaced its inner spokes with the Blitz lightning. This symbolises that one is not possible without the other. The iconic helmets that adorn the logo range from the ancient Assyrians to the modern US Marines. All were successful warriors who shaped the battlefield in their time.

What was your biggest hurdle?

The devil is always in the details. After shipping and taxes and all the intricacies of being a stockist, one realises that if you don’t have the passion for, it just won’t be worth your while. My biggest hurdle is now finding the right balance of time between getting people their armies and painting my own!

How do you find working with Battlefront?

All I can do is express gratitude for all the help rendered, especially from Brian Sayman, Anders, Khairul, Jeff, John Matthews, Kristian and Chris Townley. I think they all know I am part bloodhound when I want to chase things down, but it’s only because I take my commitment to my customers to get their orders done and shipped within 3 weeks from out of stock seriously.

So I'd just like to wholeheartedly thank them and everyone else at Battlefront for their support!

Whats next for B&P? Just Flames Of War?

For the foreseeable future, we will likely only want to carry Flames Of War and related products, as we aren’t a business as much as we are a bunch of gamers who want to share our little slice of awesome with the world. We are making some nice dice pouches and tins to complement our products and we work pretty closely with BF to get their products in there as well. Our dice pouches are our newest product line and we have great hopes for it.
