M3A1 37mm Anti-tank gun (US509)

M3A1 37mm Anti-tank gun (US509)
includes Command Rifle team, four M3A1 37mm Guns, four Bazooka Teams, one Small three-hole base, four Medium two-hole bases and four Medium no-hole bases.

The M3A1 37mm anti-tank gun was generally deployed alongside the 81mm mortar in the regimental weapons Platoon. Typically made up of four guns, the anti-tank Platoon was used to cover the Marine riflemen from possible counter-attacks by Japanese tanks. Although the 37mm was obsolete for fighting in Europe by the time the US joined the war, they were perfect for use in the Pacific.

Gung-Ho
The US Marine Corps has had a long and proud history, and the Pacific Campaign of 1941 to 1945 was perhaps its finest hour. They were the tip of the American spear, conducting amphibious assaults from Guadalcanal, through the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian and Guam, and ultimately taking the Japanese posessions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, in preparation to invade mainland Japan itself.

Japanese tank development had stagnated and the 37mm could penetrate their armour at most ranges. And as they were relatively light, they could be towed by a jeep or pushed by hand if the terrain was rough.

The bazookas were useful to help stop counterattacking Japanese tanks and could also be fired at other targets such as artillery pieces and field defences.

Gung-Ho
Around 1900 the Chinese described Marines in China as gung-ho. In Chinese, gung-ho means working together, as that is what the Chinese saw the American Marines always doing. Gung-ho conveys the Marines’ willingness to tackle any task and their commitment to the Corps.

Marine platoons use the German Mission Tactics special rule (see page 242 of the rulebook).

Semper Fi
Semper fidelis (often shortened to Semper fi) is the motto of the United States Marine Corps. It is a Latin phrase that means ‘always faithful’ or ‘always loyal’.

When Marine platoons test their Motivation to Counterattack in Assaults, you may re-roll the die and apply the re-rolled result to all Marine platoons that failed on the original roll.

Step 3. To finish off the M3A1 Gun, glue on the gun shield. This is easily done by pushing the 37mm gun through the hole in the shield. Note: Make sure the shield is facing the correct way; the side with less detail should be the facing out.
