The Italian Flames Of War Championship
With the end of June, the Third Season of Italian Flames Of War Championship has ended too!
The final event, which occurred June 28 in Florence, had 30 gamers attending - an astonishing result for an Italian wargame tournament.
Moreover, that is not the only big achievement we got this year!
During 2014/15 season the Federazione Italiana di Flames of War (Italian FOW Federation) has successfully organized 21 FOW tournaments in 18 cities in 4 countries, attending and organizing tournaments in every and each important wargame cons in Italy, notably at Empoli, Lucca Games (where we had “Lucca Flames of War Contest”) and Comics, Leghorn and the most important Italian wargame show at Agliana, Hellana Games, with a lot of participation and public interest around FOW wargame. |
Aside from the regular season, the Federation has organized several different events in order to captivate interest in Flames of War game system and create new player where they were not:
- Mission Possible, a project with a lot of player from around the world in order to create a new playable “mission”.
- The Xmas tournament, during Christmas, where games comes with wishes and gifts!
- A new event, the Flames Of War Week in Europe, where we had a week of tournaments in different European cities (Zurich in Switzerland, Graz in Austria and Agliana in Italy) with the same tournaments rules and standard and a single, common ranking for prizes.
For the same reasons, this year we had a lot of Media & Communications:
- a new web site - www.fowitalia.com
- a new Blog for posting live pictures and comments during tournaments,
- live streaming for the most important events
- a Facebook page with 300 (!) followers.
We had a lot of interest for media and gadgets too: Stop-motion presentations, tournaments booklets, a book complete with each and every army list played at tournaments, T-Shirts, Mugs, Cups, Medals and whatever we could think of!
A lot of technology has been involved too! In each tournament, we used videos, projectors and audio systems to make easier following games and ranking, we successfully developed a digital system to insert game results, with a badge and a pin number unique to each player. Then we let the computer to calculate results, ranking and pairing. And it was a very sensitive computer too! It paid attention not to mix players from the same club (no one likes to travel miles to have a game with usual buddies!) and to assign different tables to each player (not 2 games on the same table. Ever.). Managing this required just a little effort on tech side… 4 PC have been used to manage each tournament!
So, what a great and successful season it was!
More than 130 players, with the most part of them attending to more events during the year (45% has attended 4 or more events!), 21 events, 18 cities, 8 regions and 4 countries involved (we had tournaments in Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia too!). We made Italy playing with us! |
Therefore, we like to gift everyone who is interested in with a “souvenir” or memorial from this happy gaming season we enjoyed together! Please download it at: www.fowitalia.com Finally yet importantly, we paid particular attention on the human side of players (Yes, we think they have it!). We sought interesting locations for tournaments, like the Navy Officers Club at Leghorn Military Academy, Museums (Liberation Museum in Lucca, Military Museum in Pivka), wargame trade shows and… luxury resorts! Among other facilities, we try our best to make wives and kids happy too; we had a swimming pool, a shopping center and a sort of kids’ playground to entertain the other half of our world during matches…
So, see you after summer holidays with an all-new season, new proposals and events.
Up the FOW!
