Panzer Angriff at The Sydney Games & Toy Expo
with David Rea

Panzer Angriff, a Flames Of War club and Ranger group based in Penrith teamed up with Hall of Heroes, a popular local gaming store operating in Campbelltown to spread the word regarding Flames Of War at the Sydney Games & Toy Expo held over the 2013 Queen Birthday weekend.

We setup one table as a display game to attract people and to view after they had visited the demonstration table; they were keen to see the game as a whole.

We ran the Hit the Beaches mission on a beach landing table, which looked spectacular, timed in nicely to the D-Day anniversary and gave the guys an opportunity to clock up some games for the WWPD Operation Overlord campaign.

The table was set with pretty standard terrain, so the visitors were able to grasp an understanding of the effects of terrain on both Movement and Shooting. It proved very popular as the people taking part were able to see how the Command Distance rules worked and some basic tactics in action as well.

We steered away from combined arms on the demonstration table, but they got to see combined arms and assaults in action on the D-Day table.
Hall of Heroes featured a couple of other games systems as well which added to the overall attractiveness of the display.
Crowds were large and the display was seen by everyone that came through the door. There were some gamers and many who had never seen a war game before. A total of nine Rangers made it over the weekend, to help with the demonstration and display.

The demographics were younger, but a few from all age spectrums took an interest and threw some dice and brewed up some tanks. The most entertain match-up was when brother took on brother in a friendly and enjoyable competition. Overall it was a good result for Flames Of War, and I was completely knackered at the end of the weekend, so it must have been good.
