Airborne Engineer Platoon (Winter) (US728) includes Command Pioneer Rifle team, two Operating Squads (with optional additional Pioneer Rifle team), two Pioneer M1919 LMG teams, eight Medium four-hour bases & one Small three-hole base. The 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion held the southern approaches around Marvie and were the first to greet the 4th Armored Division as they arrived in Bastogne to relieve the siege. Nuts! Germans forces had smashed through the American 28th and 106th Infantry Divisions before approaching the key crossroads town of Bastogne on 19 December. In the meantime the veteran 101st Airborne Division had been rushed from their camp in France to Bastogne to take up the defence. Learn more about Nuts! here...

During Bastogne, the airborne engineers fought as infantry where the firepower of their machine-guns proved its worth. They could also lay mines and were able to knock out a block house to the south of Marvie with explosives. Designed by Evan Allen Painted by Aaron Mathie

The Pioneer Rifle Teams

Automatic Rifles The US Army is equipped with the M1 Garand self-loading rifle, M1 Carbine, and the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), giving their infantry intense short-range firepower and allowing them to maintain their rate of fire while moving. Rifle and Carbine teams do not suffer the usual +1 to hit penalty for firing a ROF 1 weapon while moving or Pinned Down. When not Pinned Down, Rifle and Carbine teams re-roll all failed rolls to hit in Defensive Fire during assaults.

Pioneer teams are rated as Tank Assault 3.

Supply Handcart A Pioneer Supply Handcart operates as a Pioneer Supply Vehicle (see pages 51 of Nuts and 263 of the rulebook).

M1919 LMG Teams You may replace any or all Pioneer M1919 LMG teams with Pioneer Rifle teams at the start of the game before deployment. These extra figures are included in the blister pack.

Command Team Description of Components a. 1x NCO figure with SMG. b. 1x Radioman figure. c. 1x Officer figure with pistol. Assembling the Command Team Simply arrange figures A, B and C to taste on the small three-hole base provided.

NCO Figures Description of Components a. 1x Standing NCO with rifle and hand up. b. 2x Standing NCO with SMG and hand up. c. 1x Kneeling NCO pointing with SMG. Assembling the NCO Figures Each Operating Squads consists of two Pioneer Rifle teams each containing four figure. One of the Pioneer Rifle teams needs to contain one NCO figure and three other Riflemen / Pioneer figures. An NCO figure is also included in one of the LMG teams of the Weapons Squad.

Assembling the Operating Squad Each Operating Squads consists of either two Pioneer Rifle teams. To model a Operation of Pioneer Rifle teams, one of the Rifle teams needs to contain one NCO figure and a combination of three Riflemen and Pioneer figures and the other team contains a combination of four Riflemen and Pioneer figures. Use whatever poses you like and model these teams on the Medium four-hole bases provided. The blister pack includes enough figures to create the two extra Pioneer Rifle teams to replace the LMG teams if you decide to field this option.

Assembling the Pioneer Figures

Mix the Pioneer figures in with the Riflemen figures to make the the correct number of figures per Pioneer Rifle team. The pack contains enough figures to include two Pioneer figure per base; this includes the optional extra Pioneer Rifle teams.

LMG Figures Description of Components a. 1x Ammo belt sprue. b. 2x Prone LMG loader figures. c. 2x Prone LMGs with gunner figures.

Assembling the LMG Figures To assemble the LMG teams simply of arrange to LMG loader and gunner with a Riflemen figure on a Medium four-hole base. The other LMG team contains a LMG team and gunner with an NCO figure.
