Flames Of War European Team Championship 2012 Report
Over the weekend of the 18-19 August 2012, the European Team Championship (ETC) was held in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland. Flames Of War featured for the first time at this prestigious event since its inception in 2006.
Each year the best players from all over the world team up compete in this competition. This year’s event had 664 total participants of which 120 were competing in Flames Of War; making this year’s field the biggest in the history of the event.
The tournament format was decided upon by Team Captains more than five months prior to the event and all of the armies to be used by players were published one month before the event to ensure each team was prepared and stood a fighting chance.
Upon arrival, each team was issued a bag of souvenirs including custom-made objective sculpted by Jakub Charmo (winner of last year's Iron Cross at the UK GT), a thermal mug, and team player cards to be used to determine the match-ups as well as various information booklets.
The prizes included plenty of Flames Of War box sets kindly provided by the event sponsor and Team Poland players. Battlefront was also kind enough to donate plaque to be awarded for the winners.
A total twenty teams each consisting of six players had gathered to represent a majority of the European countries with teams coming as far as Canada to compete. Five rounds held over a course of the two days were needed to determine the best team. Competition was very tough, yet friendly as all participants realised who came where was less important than enjoying the unique and potential once in a life time format of this event.
The final standings were very close and in most cases only a small margin in the individual battles decided fate of most teams. As a final word it can be said that this event was a tremendous success due to all the hard work of the European Flames Of War community (and Canada of course).
See you next year!
