Week Two: Bruce Beardsley

Week Two: Bruce Beardsley My first task was to apply another liberal coat of sepia wash to my vehicles. I want my Germans to appear weathered, dirty and as battle worn as the majority of German forces were by 44’-45’.

I then put on a basic camouflage pattern to my vehicles with German Camo Dark Green (979), then dry brushed Middlestone (882), to increase the faded, bleached out look of the German Armor (Mid / Late) spray paint (SP04) that I had used as a basecoat.

I used this process for three of my Panzergrenadier HQ half-tracks, my two StuGs and my Tiger I E. I then went about starting on the basecoat of my first platoon of Panzergrenadier infantry and the Company HQ. One of the reasons that I was falling behind on these guys was that I was trying to do the research as to the different SS Panzergrenadier camouflage patterns that were in use Late-war.

Most of my findings were that (seemingly) by this point in the war you had a wide variety of uniforms being worn, all within the same unit. I wanted to create a look of realism without needing to be historically accurate. Some were wearing spring camo uniform shirts with fall camo trousers, so I wanted to try and re-create that look. Right: Bruce's StuGs were sprayed along with the Tiger and half-tracks. The camo pattern has been applied and now on to the details.

Although as the week stretched on it didn’t look like week two was where I would get it done. I was forced to end the week with only minimum base coating on the infantry. Hopefully week three will allow me to get up to speed with where thing are going to slow down and that’s with the details on the infantry.
