Bridge at Remagen: The Battle for the Rhine, February-April 1945

Bridge at Remagen
An 80-page book featuring the battle for the Rhine, the last physical barrier to the German heartland, between the upgunned US and the fearless Germans. No one expects the Germans to leave any of the bridges across the river intact.

USA The M4A3 Sherman (late) tanks USA

By the spring of 1945, the American army was at its peak in terms of experience and equipment. The trusty Sherman tank had seen the army through from the very beginning, adopting many variants along the way.

Bridge at Remagen gives you plenty of options for replacing some or all of your tanks with older or newer models. The plastic sprues in Patton's Eagles let you choose between no fewer than five different variants, so you can customise your army list to your exact requirements:

The M4A3 Sherman (late)
At this late period of the war, there was really no such thing as a 'standard' Sherman tank. The M4A3 included the latest developments, such as 'wet’ stowage racks to prevent ammunition explosions, and an added hatch on the top of the turret to help the crew get out faster.

The Uparmoured M4A3 (late)
German forces of the period could call on some devastating weapons such as the hand-held Panzerfaust anti-tank rocket launcher. To deal with these threats, US tankers often made their own improvements to their machines, such as adding extra armour plating.

The M4A3 Sherman (76mm)

The M4A3 (76mm) married the new M4A3 hull with the 76mm gun, making for a fast, hard-hitting tank. This gave US tank crews a definite edge over German medium tanks, as well as giving Panther and Tiger crews something to truly fear.

Like the other late M4A3 models, the M4A3 (76mm) tank can be recognised by its steep front armour plating and crew hatches. Of course the 76mm gun is another dead give-away, but once again the turret was redesigned and the loader’s hatch was made into a single-piece oval hatch.

The M4A3 (105mm) Sherman

The 105mm assault gun variant was developed to lend serious firepower to the fight. Their role was to use their high-calibre shells to knock out enemy infantry and gun positions.

USA The M26 Pershing Tanks USA

The T26 was the outcome of a long series of potential replacements for the aging M4 Sherman as the US Army's main battle tank. It was a 42-tonne vehicle armed with an M3 L/50 gun, the same armament that equipped the M36 Jackson Tank Destroyer. It sported sloped 102mm cast frontal armour, dramatically increasing the protection of its crew compared to earlier American tanks.

The power plant was the same 500 horsepower Ford GAF V8 petrol engine in the latest versions of Sherman. The running gear had six double-bogies per side on a new torsion bar suspension running on a 23”/58cm wide track. Together, these improvements gave the T26 considerable speed for a tank in its weight class.

USA The Armored Rifle Platoon USA

Dismounting from their M3 half-track, the armoured infantry lay down a withering fire with their machine guns, mortar, semi-automatic Garand rifles, and bazookas.

Each armoured rifle platoon is an army unto itself. It supports its infantry with heavy weapons such as the excellent 60mm mortar and the M1919 light machine-gun. These will guarantee that your troops will not only make it to their objective, but also hold it against enemy counterattacks.
